Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) / Executive Director

Job Summary

The Behavioral Health Clinical Director provides executive clinical and administrative oversight for all treatment programs and services within the organization. This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring the highest quality of patient care, clinical effectiveness, staff competence, and strict compliance with all federal, state, and accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Supervision & Quality Assurance: Develop, implement, and monitor clinical protocols, policies, and procedures to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care across all programs.
  • Staff Management & Development: Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate all licensed clinical staff (LCSWs, LPCs, LMFTs, Psychologists), providing ongoing training, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Oversee program readiness and compliance for all external reviews and audits (e.g., Joint Commission, CARF, state licensing boards, CMS).
  • Program Strategy: Collaborate with the Executive Team to design, evaluate, and expand clinical programs based on community needs, best practices, and organizational goals.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Manage the clinical department budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and appropriate staff-to-client ratios.
  • Crisis Oversight: Serve as the clinical leader and decision-maker for complex ethical dilemmas, critical incident reviews, and major clinical crises.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in a behavioral health field (e.g., Social Work, Counseling, Psychology).
  • Current, active, and unrestricted independent state clinical licensure (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or Psychologist).
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-licensure clinical experience and 1 year of progressive administrative and supervisory experience in a behavioral health setting.
  • Expert knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards (Joint Commission, CARF, HIPAA).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in program development, fiscal management, and interdisciplinary team coordination.
