Job Summary
The Mobile Crisis Clinician provides rapid, in-person behavioral health crisis assessment, de-escalation, and stabilization services to individuals of all ages in community settings (e.g., homes, schools, public places). This role is part of a mobile team dedicated to diverting individuals from unnecessary emergency room visits or inpatient hospitalization by providing immediate support and linkage to ongoing community services.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond rapidly to crisis calls, traveling to the client’s location within a defined service area, often working collaboratively with law enforcement or other first responders.
- Conduct comprehensive bio-psycho-social crisis assessments to determine the client’s level of risk (suicide, homicide, grave disability) and immediate safety needs.
- Utilize advanced de-escalation techniques and therapeutic communication to stabilize the crisis situation and reduce the intensity of emotional distress.
- Develop a collaborative, short-term safety plan and a plan for definitive service linkage, often involving community-based resources or warm hand-offs to next-day services.
- Facilitate the involuntary commitment process when necessary, completing required clinical and legal documentation precisely and efficiently.
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation of all assessment findings, intervention strategies, and disposition plans in the electronic health record (EHR).
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a closely related behavioral health field.
- Current, active, and independent state clinical licensure (LCSW, LPC, LMHC, LMFT, or Psychologist) is required.
- Minimum of 1 year of post-licensure experience in a high-acuity setting, such as emergency psychiatry, crisis response, or an inpatient unit.
- Demonstrated expertise in suicide risk assessment, crisis stabilization, and de-escalation protocols.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to pass a background check allowing work with vulnerable populations.
