Job Summary
The Peer Support Specialist draws upon their own lived experience of mental health challenges or substance use recovery to offer non-clinical, strengths-based support, mentorship, and advocacy to individuals currently seeking or receiving services.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a role model and mentor, demonstrating hope and the possibility of recovery.
- Facilitate peer support groups and one-on-one supportive sessions.
- Assist clients in articulating their goals and identifying steps for recovery.
- Advocate for clients and help them navigate service systems and community resources.
- Document support activities and participate in weekly supervision and team meetings.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED; some post-secondary education preferred.
- Must be a person who has self-identified as being in recovery from mental health and/or substance use challenges.
- Completion of a state-certified Peer Support Specialist training program.
- Excellent listening skills and the ability to maintain strong, empathetic boundaries.
