Reports To: Program Manager / Peer Services Coordinator
Job Summary
The Recovery Coach provides non-clinical, peer-based support and mentorship to individuals seeking or maintaining recovery from substance use disorders. Drawing upon their own lived experience, this role focuses on promoting hope, self-advocacy, connecting clients to recovery capital, and helping them build a sustainable, self-directed recovery lifestyle.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor, sharing personal recovery experiences appropriately to inspire hope and provide practical guidance.
- Work collaboratively with clients to identify strengths, develop personal wellness and recovery action plans, and overcome barriers to recovery.
- Connect clients with various community-based recovery resources, including mutual aid groups (e.g., 12-Step, SMART Recovery), faith-based supports, and peer networks.
- Provide support in navigating systems such as housing, employment, education, and the criminal justice system as it relates to recovery goals.
- Document all support and outreach activities accurately and in compliance with program requirements and confidentiality standards.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be a person with lived experience in recovery from a substance use disorder and maintain a sustained period of sobriety and stability.
- Completion of a state-recognized Certified Recovery Coach (CRC) training and/or certification is required.
- Excellent listening, motivational interviewing, and crisis-support skills.
- Strong knowledge of local and national recovery support resources and organizations.
