Reports To: School Principal / Director of Counseling Services

Job Summary

The School Counselor develops and implements a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program focused on the academic achievement, career exploration, and social/emotional well-being of all students. This role involves direct student services, crisis intervention, consultation with school personnel, and dedicated student advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver a developmental school counseling curriculum (classroom lessons) based on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model.
  • Provide individual and small group counseling using short-term, solution-focused approaches to address student issues like grief, peer conflicts, academic stress, or motivation.
  • Conduct crisis intervention and risk assessments for students experiencing acute psychological distress or safety concerns (e.g., suicidal ideation, child abuse reporting).
  • Facilitate college and career readiness activities, including post-secondary planning, financial aid guidance, and standardized testing coordination (e.g., PSAT, ACT, SAT).
  • Consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, and administrators to develop and implement effective student success plans and behavioral interventions.
  • Maintain ethical, confidential, and accurate student records, managing documentation related to 504 plans and special education referrals.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related counseling field from an accredited program.
  • Current, active state certification or licensure as a School Counselor (K-12 or appropriate grade level designation) is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience operating within a K-12 educational setting.
  • Familiarity with the ASCA National Model and a proven ability to utilize school data to drive program development.
