Reports To: Director of Special Education / School Principal

Job Summary

The School Psychologist provides specialized expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. Key functions include conducting legally defensible psychoeducational assessments, interpreting data, providing consultation on interventions, and supporting special education eligibility processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations, including cognitive, academic, and social-emotional assessments, to determine eligibility for special education and related services.
  • Interpret assessment data and write clear, concise, and legally defensible reports detailing student strengths, weaknesses, and necessary accommodations/interventions.
  • Provide expert consultation to teachers and parents regarding effective, evidence-based academic and behavioral interventions (e.g., RTI, MTSS, PBIS).
  • Participate actively in IEP (Individualized Education Program) and multi-disciplinary team meetings to present evaluation results and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Deliver targeted direct services, such as short-term individual/group counseling or crisis intervention, as necessary, to support student well-being.
  • Maintain accurate student records and ensure all practices adhere strictly to state and federal special education laws (e.g., IDEA).

Qualifications

  • Specialist-level degree (Ed.S. or Psy.S.) or Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in School Psychology.
  • Current state certification or licensure as a School Psychologist.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a public school or educational setting.
  • Expert knowledge of federal and state special education laws (IDEA) and best practices for psychological assessment.
  • Proficiency in administering and scoring a wide range of psychological and educational assessment tools.
